Reversible Cables Lesson

Well reversible cables are awesome. And if you know how to do cables already, they are extremely simple. Cables are an easy addition that takes your knitting to new levels. Here is a little primer on cables ( I am NOT an expert- this is my liability clause - but I am self taught)

Standard Cable
Multiple of 12 plus 4 stitches
Row 1 & 3) P4,K8* across to last 4 st P4.
Row 2 & 4)Knit the knits, purl the purls
Row 5) P4, Slip 4 st to cable needle(cn) or dpn, hold slipped stitches to front, k4 from left
needle, k4 from cn or dpn (cable formed). Repeat across to last 4 st P4.
Row 6 & 8) repeat row 2.
Row 7 &9) repeat row 1.

AND NOW.....
Reversible Standard Cable
Row 1 & 3) K4, K1,P1 for 8 st* across to last 4 end K4.
Row 2 & 4) K4, kthe k p the p for 8 st* across to last 4 end K4.
Row 5 ) K4, sl 4 st to cn hold front, k1p1k1p1 from left needle, k1p1k1p1 from cn (cable formed)* across to last 4 st K4.
Row 6 & 8) repeat row 2.
Row 7 & 9) repeat row 1.

For any other cables:
Stitches for cable have to be an even number.
Knit cable stitches in 1x1 rib
Follow directions for cable you are knitting.

The cable will be about half its size because of the 1x1 rib. That is all it takes to make a reversible cable.

Mix cables with other stitches that look the same from both sides and you will have a reversible blanket or whatever you are making.
A few stitches that look the same front and back are garter stitch, seed stitch, mistake rib...
Feel free to post others.
